US-05, WLP001 and Wyeast 1056 are all the Chico strain, so any of the three is a true substitute for a clean American ale.
They share the Chico lineage, but decades of separate propagation mean they are not identical clones: US-05 is more powdery, while Wyeast 1056 flocculates harder and can read a little less attenuative. In blind tasting the beers are hard to tell apart, so swap freely and just expect a small clarity difference.
