Both are high-alpha bittering hops, but Magnum is bred purely for a smooth clean bitterness while Columbus also brings a dank, pungent aroma.
Choose Magnum for a neutral clean bittering charge in a lager or delicate beer.
Choose Columbus when you want the bittering hop to also add a dank late-hop character.
